It\u2019s lighter than concrete or clay roofing, which\u00a0means transportation is more energy-efficient. It requires\u00a0timber support, which saves resources. And it\u2019s made\u00a0from steel, which is endlessly recyclable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Transporting steel tile requires less energy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Concrete and clay tiles can be bulky and heavy. One house load\u00a0would require one average-size truck for transport. The\u00a0same truck could carry enough Decra\u00ae pressed steel roofing\u00a0for about 10 homes, using less energy (and therefore less\u00a0carbon) to transport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A lightweight roof requires less framing timber<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Compared to a concrete tile roof, a pressed steel roof\u00a0doesn\u2019t require as much framing support. On average, a roof\u00a0can require as much as an extra $1,300 worth of framing\u00a0materials and $500 more in labour costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Steel can always be recycled<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Steel is the most eco friendly material in the world. In fact it\u00a0can be recycled infinitely, without losing any of its qualities.\u00a0So when a Decra\u00ae roof reaches the end of its useful life, it\u00a0doesn\u2019t need to end up in landfill. It can be re-worked into\u00a0another steel product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Facts about recycling steel<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Steel is 100% recyclable &#8211; its form can be changed infinitely\u00a0without any of its qualities being lost. Due to its magnetic properties, steel is easy to separate from\u00a0waste streams, enabling high recovery rates. The by-products arising from steel production are all reused.\u00a0For example, slag is employed as a high-value mineral\u00a0material for highway construction, as ballast, and for the\u00a0manufacture of cement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What sustainability means to us<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sustainability by definition is inherently broad.\u00a0Generally, however, there is a commonly understood\u00a0idea of sustainability \u2013 the capacity for continuance into the long term.
